The JoyJ Initiative held its first fundraising Happy Hour this month, on Manhattan’s East side. The atmosphere was electric as nearly 100 attendees showed up to meet fellow volunteers, socialize, and share their many JoyJ experiences.
It may have been the free drink that Cornerstone Tavern gave to each attendee. It may have been the “unique” lyrical stylings of those brave enough to attempt karaoke. Or perhaps it was the fantastic raffle prizes up for grabs. Whatever the reason, spirits were high as the mission of giving back and forming powerful connections with those in need spread across the floor.
With drink glasses full and anticipation building, our President, Brian Kelly toasted the incredible contributions of everyone in the room and announced winners of the raffle, which included such wonderful prizes as tickets to a Yankees game, Soul Cycle classes, gift cards for a brunch and movie date, and a wedding themed gift basket. Winners rejoiced and so did we as enough tax-deductible donations were raised to fund nearly 100 comfort bags.
If this night was any sign of things to come, then the future is bright! Of course, the event couldn’t have been a success without the generosity of Cornerstone Tavern, Soul Cycle, our other raffles donators, and JoyJ’s Fundraiser Committee, who put together the whole thing: Allison Green, Jessica Weldon, Annemarie Deslauriers, William Donnelly, and Brian Kelly.
Thank you to all who attended and are committed to spreading the word about JoyJ! We saw some familiar faces, some new faces, and one very happy baby! The success of the night is equally owed to you! Check back frequently for updates on future events, recent and upcoming Outreaches, and other opportunities to get involved.
